'Jacqumarie' Wrecked in the River Severn.
The sad news has just been revealed to us that 'Jacqumarie',
an early Ormidale type, grounded on the Lydney Sands in the Severn.
It is thought that because of the strong spring tides she was rolled over
and then was broken up by the force of the tide and current.
The owner and his dog, the sole crew, escaped in a dinghy and were rescued
by HM Coastguard and Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA).
The 'Jacqumarie' was on her way to Gloucester from Plymouth.
She was a total loss. More details to follow soon.
Ex. Silver Owners Surf This Site
In the last few weeks an ex. owner of 'Silvander found the SMYA
website from his home in New York State, USA and has joined the association.
The son of the first owner of the Miss Silver class, 'Silver Still',
emailed the SMYA from Sydney, Australia, and plans to join the SMYA.

'Catriona'
Extracts from Emails from Dixon Beasley, from Michigan, who found the SMYA Website.
Chris,
My sister asked me to research the "Catriona", which is how I got your email
address. They currently own the boat and are in the slow process of
restoration. The only information she had was from a "plaque" that read
"Catriona" and James A. Silver LTD of Rosneath, Dumbartonshire, Scotland.
Fortunately, I found your site and printed the information. I phoned her and
read it all to her over the phone and will mail here copies in the mail. She
does not have a computer. I gave her your phone number so you can expect a
call from her.
Thanks for all of your efforts. In response to your request to share our
story, it is fine with us. My sister is so excited to hear of the history of
the Catriona. She is to send me a picture of her drydocked. I will scan and
forward to you.
The pictures you posted on the site are excellent. I composed them in a
document and emailed them to my mother to forward to my sister. Is that the
Barroness leaning against what looks like a dinghy in one of the photos? My
sister was saddened by the news that she had passed on in February. She
stated that she felt they would have enjoyed meeting each other even if just
over the phone or by mail.
I forwarded all of the membership documentation to my sister as well. I hope
that you have been able to reach her or her you by phone.
I will stay in touch.
Sincerely,
Dixon Beasley |

'Red Pirate' - A Sad Tale
I will quote from a letter sent to me by her owner in Italy.
"One year ago, on 'Fat Tuesday', the 'Red Pirate' was burnt almost completely by
some unknown revellers.
At the time we were desperate, and fully convinced that there would be no chance
to save the boat, as only the engine room and the hull under the water
line were saved.
Now I am happy to tell you that the restoration of 'Red Pirate' has been started,
under my husband's supervision, by a maitre d'axe, who has the experience of
generations in the restoration of vintage boats.
The boat will be practically rebuilt, based on the original photos and drawings,
but saving also the modifications effected by John Bain in the first years of it's life.
We will make photos of various steps of restoration, and will be pleased to write
to you again about it, if you are interested for the SMYA magazine.
Best regards
Mariella Gibellini
If anyone anywhere can help - if you have ever taken a picture
of 'Red Pirate' please send a copy to the SMYA and I will forward
it to Mariella Gibellini to help with the restoration.
I will keep you updated on the progress of the restoration and the SMYA
wishes her lots of good fortune for the future.

'June Amelia'
The 30 foot Silverette 'June Amelia' is to have a set of new stanchions.
Her original stanchions had to be removed after suffering severe damage.
Her new owner, who also has a keen interest in classic cars, is to have new stanchions made to the original design. The SMYA has arranged for him to borrow an original stanchion as a pattern.
