| 'Maple Leaf' was John Bain's first design for a private motor yacht, and the first of the many classes to follow. Between 1919 and 1921 six or seven of this type of craft were built, varying in length between 23 and 27 1/2 feet. With low fuel consumption they were ideally suited to the private owner resuming boating after World War I. The hulls were double skin carvel construction, chined at the waterline, cambered foredeck, open cockpit, and a doghouse for the helmsman. 'ZAIDA', is a 1921 model Maple Leaf 27 1/2ft LOA and is still used on Loch Lomond. Only one other Maple Leaf, 'Silver Foam', is known to have survived. |
