Brown Owl - 'Sea Lass' & 'Statice'
'Sea Lass' and 'Statice' before their launching at Silvers
'Brown Owl', the first of a new class of Silver was launched on June the 19th 1928, and is still cruising today. She was 42ft in length overall, with a beam of 10ft 8in, and a draft of 6ft 1in, planked with Oregon Pine, with distinctive cruiser stern, and powered by two 15hp. Kelvin-Ricardo engines. These first Brown Owl class Silvers continued to be built up until the mid 1930s. They were built in three sizes, 42, 47, and 52ft in length. There were two styles of topsides, namely the aft coach roof type, and the raised topsides type. The Brown Owl was a highly regarded class of motor yacht, not just amongst Clyde yachtsmen, but throughout Britain.
